MWR’s Ask Me Anything: Should I Bring Notes?

    by Erin Thiemann

Should I bring notes or a list of things to talk about to each session?

It’s always a good idea to have a general sense of what you want to work on in therapy (meaning goals or presenting concerns), but it is not necessary to have a list of what to speak about in each session. If you have things that are important for us to focus on that day, then absolutely bring them up at the start of the session, but don’t feel like you need to prepare for each time we meet. Some of the best sessions I have had with clients are when they come in saying “I don’t know what to talk about.”
