    Shannon Wilson, LMHC, PMH-C

    Shannon is licensed by the State of Iowa as a Mental Health Counselor and holds Certification in Perinatal Mental Health. She has a Bachelors degree in Social Work and earned her Masters Degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation and Student Development in 2010 from the University of Iowa.

    Shannon has extensive experience treating adults, both individuals and couples. She has expertise in reproductive and maternal mental health and enjoys working with women and families during pregnancy and new parenthood who may be experiencing difficulties with role changes and identity shift, as well as parents who are experiencing prenatal/postpartum depression, anxiety, or experiencing trauma from birth or early postpartum experiences. Shannon has supported many parents who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss and can work with people individually or as a couple as they move through this unique grieving process.

    Additionally, Shannon has specialized training in the treatment of OCD and related anxiety disorders using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP), and Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT).  Shannon has a special interest in working with individuals experiencing any sub-type of OCD. 

    Shannon remains committed to ongoing learning and professional growth and has continued her education with a variety of trainings including the 12-hour post-graduate Postpartum Depression training at The Postpartum Stress Center, the Perinatal Master Clinician Summit 2019 at The Postpartum Stress Center, and has completed the Postpartum Support International Maternal Mental Health certificate training. She is the first person in the state to become certified in Perinatal Mental Health.

    Shannon also completed “Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Anxiety-Related Disorders” training at the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy in Pennsylvania. In September 2020, Shannon completed the 21-hour ERP for OCD training through the Behavior Therapy Training Institute in Indianapolis. In 2022, Shannon completed training in the use of Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT) for the treatment of OCD.

    Shannon is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and she integrates use of this modality for clients who are experiencing traumatic stress, as well as anxiety and depression.

    In 2024, Shannon completed CBT-I training for the treatment of insomnia disorders, as well as insomnia related to anxiety, depression, PTSD, and chronic pain. 

    Shannon is a former adjunct instructor at the University of Iowa. She helped to found and formerly chaired the Iowa Chapter of Postpartum Support International. Shannon is available for public speaking about a variety of mental health issues. She is currently a member of the Iowa Mental Health Counselors Association, International OCD Foundation, Postpartum Support International and Postpartum Support International Iowa Chapter.
