Shayla graduated from Buena Vista University in 2025 with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Shayla received her undergraduate degree in English education with a minor in creative writing from the University of Northern Iowa in 2017. For the past seven years, Shayla taught English at the high school level. Through this experience, Shayla found the value in building relationships with students and helping them transition from high school into their adult lives. She is a temporary Licensed Mental Health Counselor (t-LMHC) in the state of Iowa and is under the supervision of Molly Martin, LISW.
Shayla strives to create a comfortable, collaborative, and engaging counseling experience, where clients feel valued, validated, and inspired. Shayla uses Narrative Therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS) within her practice.
Shayla works with a wide range of clients and presenting issues, including anxiety, depression, neurodivergence (ADHD), grief, trauma, life adjustments, and more. Shayla especially enjoys working with mothers to navigate the stressors and emotions that come with parenthood. As a mother herself, she understands the value of having someone to talk to through postpartum needs. Shayla provides counseling to adolescents aged 14 and older, as well as adults, for individual counseling.
